Despre: "Penny, born in South Africa with the wanderlust of Planet Earth in her blood, explored the cultures and climes of much of Europe and the Americas, and later the Middle and Far East, studying Art and Fashion Design in London and California, along with philosophy, psychology and several other provocations in an attempt to balance out her overloaded right brain!
After a spate of northern hemisphere experiences, where she married, had children and delved in the esoteric aspects of life, she returned with her children, to her roots where she founded a leather fashion and accessories business in Cape Town, in which she explored a whole new way of looking at leather by interpreting it as if it were a non-specific medium, and treating it with a mixture of reverence and funk, contemporary and classic, initiating a whole new way of interpreting, and handling this beautiful, raw, magnificent product, where it ended up in homes and on bodies around the world, via exporting, with shops in London, France and California, as well as locally in Sandton, Pretoria and Cape Town.
Her uniquely creative experiences in leather allowed her to express her art in her embroidery designs, and by crafting leather in all its manifestations into furnishing and fashion, utilizing texture, colour and form.
After her life in leather, where she dressed celebrities such as Tina Turner, the stars of Dynasty, many rock and other stars, and basketball players sporting her embroidered leather sweatshirts, she retired and opted for the equally creative and expressive life of painting and ceramics.
Penny’s ceramic pieces certainly have a style of their own, perhaps ensouling the essence of her many and varied travels and experiences, and certainly her unique individuality of style. Her pieces have been displayed in many Exhibitions and Galleries both locally and in the Middle East.
Her ceramics have sold to collectors at home and abroad. Her art expresses freedom, colour, and the love of creative interpretation. Her moulding of the clay into its diverse forms of individualistic interpretation reflect not only the creative freedom of the art, but also her own love of live, and her diversity and uniqueness of spirit."
